This style ruler is the best cutting edge for use with a matte or X-acto knife.
If you are cutting a straight line in foam core, matte board, poster board or any kind of watercolor or thicker paper, using a straight edge is a really good idea. This ruler is metal, so there is no need to worry about accidentally cutting the ruler. The cork back helps keep it from sliding out of place while you cut. Mark the line you intend to cut. Line the ruler up with the line, so that your blade, when held tight along side the edge will cut the line perfectly. Hold the ruler carefully with your left hand, keeping all fingers out of the path of the blade and cut with your right by pulling back smoothly with an even pressure. It may take two or three cuts to make it all the way through, depending on the thickness of the material you are cutting. Because this ruler can flex a little, it can be used to cut straight lines on slightly curved surfaces, which does come in handy from time to time. (268) | | Views: 2363
